At Pantone

One of the very coolest things I got to do while I was in New York last week was visit the Pantone factory. I was lucky enough to get to do this because Chronicle Books is their publisher for many fine books and paper products, and I'm their editor. The lobby displays various of their licensed products, which are very pretty, but it's once you go inside that the real magic begins. Suddenly you are touring a real live working factory floor where they mix inks by hand (!) and print pallet-loads of color-accurate chips, and where finished products come popping out of machines on conveyor belts. My jaw was more or less dropped the whole entire time. Pretty darn amazing to get to see.
